You have 40 minutes to find the answers to the following questions.  Then you will upload the information to your blogs and present it to the class.

1.       Pick one of the top 8 countries on the World Happiness Index from the teacher.

2.       Find the life expectancy, experienced well-being, ecological footprint and HPI (Happy Planet Index) overall spot of the Happy Planet Index 2012.

3.       Find a picture of the flag, a map showing the location of the country, a typical citizen smiling,

4.       Financial Life:

·         GDP per year per capita,

·         3 common occupations and the average salary of each one

·         cost of living: a can of coke, a bottle of water, a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, bus ticket, a pair of Nikes.

5.       Social Life: 3 common national sports, 3 tourist attractions, 3 common hobbies or pastimes , 3 typical dishes

6.       Find a singer from the country and a link showing them singing.  Learn the chorus of one of his or her songs and sing it in front of the class (when you present your team) with the singer in the video behind you.  Dance movies are encourage and will probably win you votesJ

1.       Language Lab: Country Quest Challenge: Pick a country out of a hat, find the information asked of you.

Homework:

1.      Read Unit 1 Lesson C and do Blog Entry #1: Personalize Blog with things that make you happy  (5 pictures, profile entry about you, what makes you happy, and things you like (50 words): music, hobbies, etc…)

2.       Finish the Language Lab #1: Culture Challenge including a video of you singing a song from that country and a translation of the chorus and upload all sections to one of your blogs to be presented on Monday.

3.Please change the url of your blog to include your name. Use  denysekuhnenglish8.blogspot.mx  as your example. Thanks!

COURSE POLICIES:
  • General policy:  We will follow all ITESM rules in this class as well as the DOR regulations.
  • Punctuality:   In the understanding of promoting responsibility, tardiness will not be accepted.
  • Honesty:  Copied homework will be considered void.    No copy/paste.  You will get a zero for copy/paste plagiarized work (in whole or in part).  Second time will be considered Academic Dishonesty with full consequences.
  • Respect:  Respectful behavior is expected in and out of  the classroom.
·         Responsibility:  Homework should be handed in on the date and form indicated by your teacher; otherwise, it will not be received.  Feel free to use recycled paper.
  • Behavior:  No food or drinks  allowed in the classroom.  Cell phones and electronic devices only when requested by your teacher.   
EVALUATION POLICY:
This course will be approved only if:
a)      the minimum TOEFL requirement for this level is obtained (510),  and
b)      the final course grade is 70 or more.
